Haveyougotmymoney

SADLY we have to start today’s blog on a negative note as we lost Haveyougotmymoney at Bangor last night. I was down in Wales with him and didn’t notice anything untoward during the race, but by the time I got to the stable block he was being attended to by the vets. Unfortunately, it seems one of the horses around him has struck into him and as a result he suffered a fracture in his leg.

It was just a freakish accident, he’s just been unlucky that it’s hit him in the wrong place, but that doesn’t make it any easier to take because he was a horse we all loved. He was the most ultra-consistent competitor and the only times he ran a below race was when the handicapper had him in a bit of a grip. He was a funny little horse who had his own way of doing things so it was sad to say goodbye to him last night. It’s tough on his owners and the girls in the yard too because they spent so much time caring for him.

Earlier in the day at Cartmel Arctic Ambition ran a cracker to finish second. Like we said in the blog, we expected him to run well because we felt he was coming back to himself at home – so we’re glad he proved us right!

He’ll go to Worcester on the 8th of July now, which is a quick turnaround but he didn’t lose any weight yesterday and is bouncing this morning. You wouldn’t think he’d had a race. He’ll be entered in a 0-105 so even if he goes up a few pounds he’ll still get in.

Tomorrow we will run BREIZH RIVER (2.25) at Uttoxeter in the Bet365 handicap chase over two miles. It’s a competitive race, which you would expect given the prize money on offer, but the horses above him in the handicap are a bit older and more exposed than he is. I like the fact we have the young horse coming through in this race.

I was happy to see Paul Nicholls’ horse Matterhorn not turn up because he was the one I feared most. We are getting a lot of weight from the top two in the handicap and I’m pretty sure we have improvement to come and have a bit left ahead of the 122 handicap mark.

It’s a class two and there are plenty of previous winners in there, but we can’t wait to step him up and see what’s under the bonnet.

WE may now be based on the other side of the border but Kelso remains our local track. I’m also hoping it continues to be a lucky one!
