Facilities

At Hazelrigg, we offer exceptional training facilities including a six-furlong woodchip gallop for cardiovascular workouts, a fully covered indoor school with portable jumps for all-weather schooling, and spacious paddocks for relaxation. Our equine pool aids fitness and rehabilitation, while our grass schooling grounds and deep sand gallop build strength and stamina ensuring our animals are in peak condition when they race.

Sand Gallop

Hazelrigg’s deep Wexford sand gallop was laid in 2021 and is one of the key features of the yard these days. It’s perfect for helping the horses to build up strength and stamina by running steadily for several laps in both directions.

The deepness of the surface allows us to do real intensive work to gain base fitness before switching to the longer gallop for their speed work.

Gallop

We have a six-furlong woodchip gallop that is against the collar throughout, providing an excellent cardiovascular workout for horses while also enabling us to build their stamina reserves and get them to peak fitness before they race.

Indoor School & Ride

Approximately one furlong round, our fully covered and lit indoor ride allows us to school horses no matter what the weather is. With fully portable jumps, we’re able to teach them going both left and right-handed, enhancing their ability to jump off either foot and improving their adaptability to run on any configuration of track.

Paddocks

Like humans, horses have to be happy to produce their best work – so giving them the best environment is crucial to success. We like to turn out our horses as much as possible, so the paddocks we have around the yard are vital to keeping them relaxed and stimulated.

After work, they like nothing better than to roll around, socialise with their friends or simply just have a pick of grass to wind down. Being outside in the fresh air, eating grass is great for maintaining healthy stomachs and minds.

Happy and healthy horses produce the best results, so giving them the environment to enjoy their downtime is just as important as their work.

Equine Pool

The pool is an amazing facility which can be used in addition to the other methods of getting horses fit. It’s especially good for those who take longer to come into peak condition and also allows us to focus on different muscle groups. Swimming is also hugely beneficial for animals who are recovering from injury as part of their rehabilitation or for those who benefit from variety in training schedule.

Schooling Grounds

Educating horses to jump is essential to their long-term development, so the work done from an early age is vital for teaching them their jobs before they even get to the track.

On our grass grounds we can mix up what they jump, from starting out over poles, then hurdles up to graduating onto full-size fences later in their career.

Even the most experienced jumpers benefit from regular sessions throughout their careers and we use our outdoor fences to keep them sharp and improve technique.
