Perth – Athair Mor

ATHAIR MOR (3.35) makes his debut for us at Perth tomorrow, having joined the yard from James Ewart’s stable over the summer.

We are delighted to be training for the Potassium Partnership, who are a small but very professional, well-run syndicate with a nice history of successful days at the races.

So we’re chuffed to bits to have new owners, new colours and a new horse in the yard.

James has also been great, he’s been really forthcoming about how he was trained in the past and has passed on as much information as possible.

It obviously helps that Ryan Mania has ridden him before too, so that partnership remains intact.

Athair Mor will tackle fences for the first time and step up to 3m for this chasing debut, after four runs over hurdles for James last season.

He’s done everything we wanted to see from him since his arrival at Hazelrigg and worked well in a course gallop recently.

Ryan has schooled him over fences and was happy with his work, and we’re in agreement that this 3m trip is what he’s looking for.

We are kind of throwing him in at the deep end a bit in a handicap against some more experienced chasers, but there are not many beginners or novice chases suitable for him right now.

He’s going up to Perth to give it his best shot and hopefully we’ll see a horse with plenty of potential.

The season feels like it’s really starting to kick in now, we’ve had a bit of rain around so the ground is softening up nicely for the winter team.

Perth will be racing on good to soft, which is perfect for starting out the likes of Athair Mor at this time of the year.

We’ve got a few other entries later this week, with Sparky Tom, Diamond Mix and our Racing Club horse L’Insurge down to run at Kelso on Saturday.

So it’s an exciting time here and in every other yard in the country.

We feel we’ve got the team in a good place, a lot of them have been away for racecourse gallops and we’ll have a few more working after racing at Perth on Tuesday too.

Hopefully we’ll get the benefit of that when they hit the track in the weeks to come.
