Musselburgh – Breizh River

OUR horsebox is making its way back up to Musselburgh this morning where BREIZH RIVER (1.55) takes part in their two-and-a-half mile novices handicap chase.

We ran him here on January 1 and I was annoyed with myself for running because he hated the soft ground and never went on it at all. That isn’t a factor this time, the conditions up in Edinburgh are lovely.

His win in the Simply Ned at Kelso back in October suggests he’s up to competing at this level because he mixed it with horses rated in the 150s and 140s that day. So if he puts his best foot forward this afternoon I can certainly see him making his presence felt.

I’m sure he’s good enough to win a race like this and if we can get him in the same form as Kelso then hopefully he can back our belief in him up. He’s fresh and well, the handicapper has dropped him 2lbs so he’s now back to his last winning mark too.

We will ride him prominently today, like we did at Kelso, and I think dropping him in the last time wasn’t the best plan either. Fingers-crossed he runs to the best of his ability.

Thanks again to Dennis Penny for the use of his pictures
