Musselburgh and Wetherby

OUR horseboxes will be heading in different directions today, with one runner up at Musselburgh and another down at Wetherby.

CAPTAIN QUINT (3.57) runs in Edinburgh in the 3m handicap chase on the first day of their Cheltenham Trials meeting. He’s the outsider of the field and there’s no doubt he’s up against it in this company, but he’s a pound below his last winning mark and was second over course and distance at this meeting 12 months ago.

We know he likes Musselburgh and has won round the track before, so this has been his target for a while and we’ve saved him for this. When he ran here last February it was off the back of a similar break so we know he goes well fresh.

Since we took over his training he’s been running in races where he’s been top weight but this time it flips and he’s down near the bottom of the handicap. Hopefully carrying a lower weight in a better race will suit him and it wouldn’t surprise me if he runs well.

DIAMOND MIX (1.00) makes his chasing debut at Wetherby over 2m3f and we’re excited to get him over fences. We’ve always thought he was a chaser and while we’ve been happy with him in his runs over hurdles building up experience, this is what the future for him was always going to be.

We think a big galloping track like this will suit him and he needs this sort of trip as well. His owner is an absolute gentleman and we’re looking forward to starting his chasing career this weekend!
