Mr Withington – Ayr

MR WITHINGTON runs for the Paul Robson Racing Club in the 2.00 at Ayr today, a 1m2f handicap where he’ll face 13 rivals.

Having completed three runs in novice events, two for us and one for his previous yard, he now steps into handicap company off a mark of 62. This is a realistic level for him to get life going in the handicapping game so while he’s not been hugely competitive in his runs yet, these calmer waters should help him.

We think the ten furlong trip is what he wants and after riding him at Redcar a few weeks ago, David Nolan said he felt he’d be better with a bit of cut in the ground. Ayr have had a bit of rain recently so are on good to soft, which we think will be ideal.

David rides again and is starting to get to know him quite well, so hopefully we’ll see a step forward from him.

Opposition-wise, there are a couple of recent winners and the conditions of the race for 3yo means there are some lurking below us in the handicap who will be dangerous.

Hill O Rou is the most obvious of those, having won at Carlisle in May but he does have a rise to contend with, while Say What You See and Penelope’s Sister step down in grade.

We’re happy with where we have Mr Withington for his handicap debut so are looking forward to seeing him in this grade.
